What is First Fruit Child Sponsorship?
First Fruit Child sponsorship is a program for children 3 to 12 years of age, whose goal is to offer hope, education, and a brighter future- mentally, spiritually and physically. Why Child Sponsorship? When visiting Haiti, one is immediately confronted with thousands of children begging on the streets, drifting aimlessly and with a look of lost hope for the future in their eyes. With the poverty level and economic conditions prevailing, and no government aid or schooling available, families are forced to pay for schooling. These conditions produce a current illiteracy rate in the nation of over 80%. This program is a step toward erasing these conditions for many children. What will my sponsorship provide? First Fruit is a coordinated effort between this ministry and the local churches in Port-au-Prince. The areas the sponsorship will target are known as Delmas 31, Pernier, and Cotin. In these areas, there are more than 32,000 people, of which only 2% can afford to attend school. The local pastors convert their churches into a school during the day. In addition to having a heart for God, they also have a heart for their people and children, and the daily operation of the schools. Sponsorship Commitment Your commitment is for a specific child to the age of 12. We realize that circumstances will sometimes not allow this and ask that you advise us if this should occur. May we communicate with the child? Absolutely! We encourage you to communicate with your child. We can tell them about your family and inquire about theirs as well. This is a great way to become personal if you so desire. Obviously, there is no obligation on your part. If you desire, you may send them small enclosures as gifts. Please limit them to only those items that can fit in an envelope for mailing purposes. How is my sponsorship remitted? Depending on the mode of payment selected you will receive a timely reminder. All payments, correspondence or gifts should be mailed to First Fruit or payments can also be made through our PayPal account. You will be provided a number which will designate your child. Also, you will receive a photo of your child and periodic updates of their progress. All start up costs for First Fruit have been born individually by the board of directors. Be assured that 100% of your sponsorship is directed entirely to your child. |
